Keith Vaughan: Two Studies of Bathers, 1951

Framed in oak

Artist’s estate, Peter Adam, private collection

It is interesting to note in this preparatory drawing how Vaughan used pencil studies to arrange and refine his compositions ahead of commencing a painting. Forms are moved around, pictorial features are organized and the relationship between figure and landscape is gradually established.
